The sculpture of ancient Greece entered a period of perfection during the Classical Age. The cultivation of the fine arts in Athens, with the inspired artists who worked there as well as the aesthetic sensibility of its people, contributed toward the creation of works of art inimitable in their harmony, rhythym, symmetry and expressiveness. A very intense and creative architecture was complemented by sculptureā€™s technical composition. Sculpture during this period brings stone, marble, copper, gold and ivory to life. Sculptures were made for the pediments and metopes for the Temple of Zeus in Olympia, the gold- ivory sculptures of Athena and Zeus, the bronze of Lymias Athena, the bas-relief of Elefsina, Hermes by Praxiteles, Aphro- dite by Knidou, etc. Famous sculptors of the age were Pheidias, Alkamenes, Agorakritos, Skopas, Praxiteles and Lysippos.
